Meet Rob Kinnion, Solutions Architect, and our 2020 Q4 MVP award recipient! With over 20 years of IT experience, Rob is well known for his agility and help-first, can-do attitude. Here’s what some of the team had to say about him:
“Rob is curious, intelligent, proactive, and overall fun guy. I feel very lucky to be able to work with him!”
“Rob has been a great addition to the team! He’s knowledgeable and always willing to lend a helping hand!”
“Rob hit the ground running from the day he started. I appreciate his commitment and help first attitude.”
1. What brought you to Greyson? Why did you want to work here?
The people. Greyson has a family-like atmosphere. I knew they were a good partner in this space. I had worked with many in the team before and knew all the great things Greyson had accomplished.
2. What do you enjoy most about what you do?
I’m a builder at heart. I like to design solutions and help customers solve problems. At Greyson, I get to do that every day!
3. What led you to a career in IT?
I’ve always been logical in nature and found technology in general very interesting. As a kid, I would take my toys apart to see how they worked. I got to the point where working on computers wasn’t enough and that’s when IT-style solutions drew me in. I instantly gravitate towards anything that is technical in nature and requires problem-solving.
4. Which of our core values resonates with you most and why? (Help First, Fun, Pride, Committed, Courage)
Help First. Whether it’s helping someone on the team, our clients, or finding ways to give back to the community, having a help first attitude is something that is natural to me.
5. Who inspires you and why?
My mom. She never gives up. She weathers life’s challenges pretty well, likely due to her faith. She’s a strong Christian woman and I picked up some of that along the way—faith and strength in God. I also find inspiration in free-thought individual thinkers that aren’t following the norm, like Elon Musk and his desire to go to space.
6. What’s one thing not many people know about you?
I was a punk rocker. Truth is, inside I still am! I had a mohawk, leather pants, boots—the whole getup. I was actually in an episode of Miami Vice once upon a time, in my punk gear. To this day, I still like punk music and tattoos!
7. What do you enjoy doing most outside of the office?
I’m creative. I’m always building something. Either remodeling something at home or building something out of wood. There’s always a project waiting for me.
8. If you could have dinner with anyone (past or present), who would you choose and why?
I think that having 1 more hour with my dad at dinner would be my top choice; and get any last wisdom he had yet to share with me. He passed suddenly, and I had not had a chance to say goodbye, so that would be the time for reminiscing and closure.
9. What’s the best advice you’ve been given in your career?
To listen more. You get more out of life in general if you do this. Ask the questions and listen to the answers. More listening equates to better outcomes. The more you listen, the better you’ll do in life.
